Sharing my go-to recipe for the most perfectly soft and delicious Sugar Cookie. I received this recipe from a friend years ago and while I’m sure it’s not all that unique in the world of sugar cookie recipes, it’s been my favorite time and time again. The key is getting the thickness just right and not over baking them so make sure to watch them closely once they’re in the oven. Recipe below!
Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1.5 C Powdered Sugar
- 1 C Unsalted Butter (softened)
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- .5 tsp Almond Extract
- 2.5 C Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
Directions:
- Combine powdered sugar and butter and mix well
- Add egg, vanilla extract and almond extract to butter/sugar and mix well
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar
- Slowly mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix well
- Roll into large ball and refrigerate for 2-3 hours
- When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 (optional: line baking sheet with parchment paper)
- Roll dough to .25″ thickness and cut with cookie shapes (I use extra powdered sugar on the counter to prevent the dough from sticking)
- Bake 6 minutes (I like my sugar cookies soft so I pull them just as they start to puff up and before the edges turn golden)
